A few days back I was watching news on TV in which the formation of a tornado caught in videotape was shown and it looked quite amazing. It appeared like a giant pillar of sand and cloud standing over the ground extending towards the sky. It was an awesome video. The person who was shooting video ran towards the tornado and he seemed to be just a small thing in front of the gigantic tornado. It was awesome to look at.

It reminded us of the pillar of cloud spoken in the Bible. When the Israelites who came out of Egypt were journeying across the wilderness, God went before them in a pillar of cloud and in a pillar of fire. We read in Exodus 13:21-22, “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.”

Bible gives description about God that He is awesome and mighty. We may never be able to understand the fullness of His awesome nature. But time and time again He showed His awesomeness through mighty wonders which He performed in the lives of His children. From Genesis to Revelation we could see His great, mighty and awesome deeds.

In the Old Testament we read how God created the world by His mighty power, how He led Abraham to a strange land where there were no one to whom he could turn for help. In that strange land God protected him, provided for him and met all his needs. Even in that strange land Abraham became mighty and very wealthy. Not only that, God fulfilled all His promises, however impossible those promises seemed to be. In His great mercy and in His mighty power He fulfilled all those promises. At one time Abraham and Sarah even laughed when they were told that they will have a son. Gen 17:17, Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?" And in Gen 18:12, Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"

Yes, it was impossible in the sight of Abraham and Sarah, yet God fulfilled His promise by His mighty and awesome power and turned impossibility into possibility. The same awesome God led the Israelites in the wilderness where there was no one to take care of them. Moses sung in his song like this in Deu 32:10-14, "He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so the LORD alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him. He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock; curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs; and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the choicest wheat; And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes.”

Oh, it was an amazing journey orchestrated by the Almighty God alone who led them in a very marvelous way. Unless God had protected them, we would never have heard the name of Israel today.

The same awesome God came down in this world and walked among us. We read about His mighty and awesome deeds in the New Testament. And He is the same yesterday, today and forever. When we repent from our sins and turn to Him, when we invite Him in our lives, He will come in our hearts and dwell among us. He will perform the same awesome and mighty deeds in our lives.

How wonderful it is that this awesome God lives in us, with us and walks among us.

Does God Care?

By Sherly Isaac

During the last few days many great tragedies have taken place, first the cyclone in Myanmar then tornados in different parts of USA, fire in Florida and now the earthquake in China. Each and every scene was heart wrenching and tragic. Does God care?

Well, to know more about God’s care we need to go back to the first book of the Bible. In the beginning God created everything including human beings. The first man Adam and the first woman Eve were created and were put in charge of the Garden of Eden. God told them not to eat the fruit of the tree which was in the midst of the garden. But they could not obey God, but fell in sin. They ate the fruit of the tree. The next thing which happened to them was fear and chaos in their lives. They immediately knew that they had done a great mistake in the sight of God. When they heard the sound of LORD God walking in the garden, they got more terrified and they hid themselves from the presence of God as we read in Gen 3:7-8 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”

But look at the love of God who came searching for the same people who spit on the face of God by disobeying Him. Being all-powerful and almighty, He could have chosen to just destroy Adam and Eve or to abandoned them forever. But no, He came searching for them as we read in Gen 3:9, “Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?"

God came searching for them when they were at their lowest point and in the darkest hour of their lives. He also provided solution for their problem in Gen 3:21, “Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”

The same God who provided solution for Adam and Eve is also providing solutions for the people time and time again. The same God sent His only Son to seek and save the lost as we read in Luke 19:10, "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

He loved us so much that He gave His precious life for us. Rom 5:6-8, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Even today He is ready to rescue people from their sin. He came to restore to us whatever we had lost in the Garden of Eden. More than that, He is ready to help us in our heartbreaks, tears and most dire situations. Whenever people called upon His name, He came for their rescue. Call upon His name and He will answer you from heaven. His name is Jesus.

Praise Him....
