You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day. (Psa 91:5) This is the promise of God for His children. But at times we feel frightened and afraid. I believe that fear comes and hits us often because we do not fully trust in Him.

I remember that, about a year back one day my dad became sick. In the afternoon when no one was at home except my mom, dad and I, he started shivering uncontrollably as I had never seen anybody in my whole life. I tried everything I could, increasing the room temperature, covering him with all the blankets I could find in home and praying, but nothing worked. I was so scared to see him in that condition. I called my brother and told him what was happening.

Soon after that my dad was taken to emergency room. That evening doctors could not bring his blood pressure up. So they told my brother that there must be something wrong... Then my brother called one of our doctor friends and asked what it could be. She said, "It looks that his system has some kind of shock and probably his system is trying to shut down." Doctors had a grim face and they did not know what to do. My brother called us and told us to pray. Finally after several hours, his blood pressure came up back.

Next day he had to go through a surgery. I can say that this time I was at the lowest point of my faith. I was very much tensed rather than fully trusting God. As we were waiting outside the surgical unit, about an hour later, the receptionist came and told us that, "someone will come from the doctor's team and talk to you." When I heard that, my stomach churned and suddenly I started feeling very sick. Many thoughts came into my mind, "Why someone wants to talk to us in the middle of the surgery?" The more I thought, more frightening thoughts came to my mind and I started to think that something terrible might have happened in the surgery room... We had very little sleep in the previous night and we were tired but hearing those words, all my sleep disappeared. As I sat there feeling so hopeless and helpless, praying in my heart, suddenly a song filled my mind, the song often sung by our church youth members, "my God is mighty to save, mighty to save."

Slowly my fear left me and calm settled in my mind. Of course the surgery was successful and he came back home a few days later.

Yes, my friend, God wants us to have a life that is free of fear and blessed. If we trust Him fully and if our eyes are focused on Him completely, we can live without fear and in hope.

God Will go Before you And Will Be your Rear Guard

By Sherly Isaac

Isaiah 52:12, "For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the LORD will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard."

God promised His protection for His children. When He brought the Israelites out from Egypt, He walked before them in a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire. At the same time He protected them from the backside so that the Egyptian army could not catch them. We read in Exodus 13:21, "And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night."

The whole idea of going before is to clear the way so that the Israelites could go through those paths without any problem. We read in Isaiah 45:2 that God says, "I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron."

He is interested in straightening your path and He is interested to make a way for you where there is no way. The Israelites in their wilderness journey often felt as if there was no way ahead of them. When the Egyptian army followed them, they thought that it was the end of their lives. They lost all their hope because, the Red Sea was before them and the Egyptian army was behind them. What could they do in that situation? There was no escape route and death was certain. But the same God, who went before them, who parted the Red Sea in two, He made a way where there was no way and brought the Israelites to safety. Though the Israelites were on the way to the other side of the sea, yet they were in trouble as the Egyptian army could still follow them. But God does not do half work. In Exodus 14:24 we read, "Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the LORD looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians."

Just His one look brought trouble in the camp of the Egyptian army. My friend, we have got a mighty God! If we love Him, follow Him and if we walk in His ways, He is ready to protect us from all evil, from all our enemies and from all the danger we face in our lives just as He did for the Israelites. Bible tells us that He took care of them for 40 long years in the wilderness and He carried them as a father would carry his son. That's what He is.

He loves us and He wants to bring us to safety not only in the physical realm but also in spiritual realm. Because one day our body will die but our spirit will live on. According to the Bible this spirit has to live either in heaven or in hell. If our sins are forgiven, then we will enter in heaven. Otherwise hell is waiting for us. Jesus came in this world and shed His precious blood on the cruel cross so that we could be forgiven. Today forgiveness of our sins is available for us. He is ready to forgive and give us eternal life. If you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, He is ready to forgive you.
