This week is Holy week. Jesus who came in this world taking the form of a man was about to wrap up His ministry and His life in this world. His purpose of coming in this world to save sinners and lost was shaping up. His disciples could not understand it though Jesus told them before hand. This was the time when Jesus was betrayed, beaten, marred, spitted on, mocked and finally crucified on the cross. Bible says in Isa 52:14, "Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men." This was the most horrific death anybody could have. But Jesus chose to do this because He loved us so much. His love is so great for us that He was ready to do anything for us.
It is like a child fallen in fire and a desperate father attempting to pick him up from that fire and to save him. Sure, he does not care whether he would burn himself or die in saving his child, but he has only one thing in his mind to somehow pick the child from the consuming fire and bring him to safety. That's what Jesus did on the cruel cross for me and for you. By giving His precious life and shedding His precious blood, He bought salvation for our souls so that we may not die but live forever.
Though He went through such a painful process of death, though people hurt Him so bad, yet He loved them and prayed for them. He cried out from the cross saying in Luke 23:34, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." He loved the world so much that He prayed for His enemies which is impossible for anybody to do.
Then, there were two thieves hung with him on the cross. One was mocking Him but the other said to Him, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus forgave him and said, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43). In the midst of His pain and suffering He gave him assuerence of eternal life. Today also Jesus wants to forgive and forget our sins no matter how big they are.
He not only loved His enemies and the crimnal on the cross, but also His mother. When He looked and saw Mary weeping and completely heart broken, He cared for her and gave the responsibility of looking after her to one of His disciples.
Yes, He is a loving God who cares for us. When we cry, when we are heartbroken, He comes to help us and give us deliverence.
His 4th saying from the cross was, ”Eli Eli lama sabachthani?” ("My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"), Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34).
Jesus who took all the sins of the world on Himself was separated from God the Father because God is Holy and sin separates Him. He cannot have anything with sin. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were sent away from the Garden of Eden because God could no longer have fellowship with them. But Jesus became sin for us so that we could be united with God. If we come to Him, He is ready to unite us with father by forgiving our sins.
On the cross He became thirsty so that we could have living water gushing out of our lives and becoming a fountain. Living water is none other than Holy Spirit. Not only He wants to give us salvation of our souls but also He wants to fill us with Holy Spirit.
Thus He finished the work of salvation of mankind on the cruel cross and committed His spirit in the hands of the Father. Because of His work on the cross we have only to come to His presence and ask for forgiveness of our sins. And He will forgive our sins.
Glorious Resurrection
By Sherly Isaac
After the crucifixion of Jesus, He was buried in the tomb. Roman government placed soldiers to secure the tomb because they heard Jesus saying that, He will rise up after three days of His death. So there were soldiers keeping the tomb of Jesus. But on the third day, an angel of God descended from heaven and he rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. When the guards looked at him, they shook with fear and became like dead men.
In the morning of the third day when some of the women went to His tomb, they found that the stone was rolled back and an angel of God was sitting there. Mat 28:5-7, "But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you."
Yes, He is not in the tomb or among the dead but He rose from the dead. Those who wanted Him dead were amazed. Those who wanted to see Him destroyed were astonished. Death could not contain Him and grave could not hold Him. He came out victoriously and gloriously out of that tomb.
Today this same glorious resurrection is available for every person who is dead in sin, who is heading toward eternal death. He is able to bring us out of our sins and give us New life, Eternal life that will never fade away.
Not only that, He wants to resurrect our dead dreams. You might have thought that those dreams would never come alive but Jesus can breathe a new life on your dreams. Just look to Him.
