Matthew 10:16, "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”

Last week we saw that God has sent His people among the wolves, not to behave like wolves or serpents to harm others. But while being innocent and harmless, still to take actions wisely. This verse or any of the Bible verses does not suggest to cheat, dupe or harm others.

When Jacob ran for his life and took shelter in the house of Laban who was the father of Rachel, Laban tried to cheat him in all things for his own profit or for his own gain. After one-month stay in the house of Laban, Laban told him, “though you are my relative, you need not serve me for free? Tell me what would be your wages?” And Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter." When seven years had passed and when time came for Jacob to get Rachel in marriage, Laban deceived him and gave Leah (Laban’s elder daughter) as his wife. You can imagine what type of a father Laban was, who even had no consideration of his own daughter’s happiness or her good future. It is one of the most tragic stories recorded in the Bible. Then Jacob worked seven more years for Rachel.

Many years later Jacob said to Laban that he wants to return to his home. But Laban cunningly denied his request. Every time Laban deceived him and changed his wages for his own benefit and for his own gain. Rachel and Leah said about their father, “Are we not considered strangers by him? For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money.” We also read that because God was with Jacob, both he and Laban prospered. But Laban’s deception did not end. So God told Jacob to leave that place and go to his home and to his family. So Jacob fled from the house of Laban with all his possessions and with his wives and children. Laban was told about this incident and he pursued Jacob and overtook him. Laban came intending to harm Jacob, but how cunningly he speaks in Genesis 31:26-29, “And Laban said to Jacob: "What have you done, that you have stolen away unknown to me, and carried away my daughters like captives taken with the sword? Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me, and not tell me; for I might have sent you away with joy and songs, with timbrel and harp? And you did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters. Now you have done foolishly in so doing. It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.'”

Laban was a man who was always playing games with his daughters, his son-in-law and others. He was not even afraid to harm his own children. But Jacob survived because God was with him who sustained him. Bible tells us about Pharisees and Sadducees that they were always playing games with people. They wanted honor and respect from others, good seats in synagogues. So they showed themselves as big religious leaders, but in reality they were something different. They always opposed the true message of the Bible. If anybody tried to tell them that they were not correct they suppressed them and endangered their lives. They rejected the almighty God the creator of heaven and earth - Jesus Christ and finally nailed Him on the cross. Why? Because the message of Jesus Christ made their position unstable. Their hypocrisy was exposed and their very own existence was in danger. They thought that by killing Jesus they could win. But to their utter despair Jesus rose from the dead.

Are not many people even those who call themselves as Christians, like that today? For their own profit, or for their own gain, they dupe, they deceive and they harm innocent people. They reject the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, and at the same time they are ready to accept wrong doctrines. But no one can prevail fighting against God. No one can cheat God. There is only one way to escape punishment to repent and to turn to God and then God’s blessings will follow. There is only one way to be right with God i.e. to be washed with the blood of the Lamb who died for us and took all our sins on the cruel cross. And live as the Holy Lamb lived in this world – a holy life, an innocent life, a blameless life. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 7:9-11, "Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face. Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.”

Test every Spirit

By Sheela Isaac

1 John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

The above verse speaks about testing the spirits. Today we find everywhere people speaking, not to judge anybody. They say, “Do not judge anybody, because nobody is perfect.” At the same time you’ll find them judging others. But what the Bible speaks about it? Bible says, “Test every spirit, whether they are of God.”

It is the duty of each and every believer to test and see what is correct, and what is right according to Bible. Bible and Jesus should be our template. We need not to follow any human being. If you follow anybody other than Jesus you will surely fall. If you look at the sinful human being for guidance and try to copy them it is sure that you’ll fall. Instead of it, look towards Jesus who is the most holy God, who is roll model for us. If you follow Him you will never fall. If you obey His commandments, if you follow His footsteps, you will never be ashamed. You need to follow Bible, not the words of human beings. Test all the spoken words of people whether it lines up with Bible or not.

1 Th 5:21, Test all things; hold fast what is good. 1 Th 5:22, Abstain from every form of evil. Again the above said verses speak about holiness. It says, “Abstain from every form of evil.” That means hold fast to what is good. Do the things, which are good and just in the sight of God. Holiness, that’s what God desires from everybody. Bible says, “Without holiness no one will ever see God.”

God has kept us in this world. It is the preparation ground. This is the place where we prepare ourselves for the eternal home. It depends on each and every person, how a person is getting ready. We see that for the army does intensive preparation for battle so that at the time of battle they may not lose. In the same way we are here to prepare ourselves for the eternal home. Bible says that there is only two places where soul goes. It is either Heaven or Hell. What you do today will determine your future. How much do we prepare ourselves for worldly exams and for many other tasks? But the question is, are we preparing ourselves for the final battle i.e. battle of life and death. This preparation will determine whether you are eligible for the place called heaven or not. The way you live in this life will determine whether you are eligible for the place called heaven where most holy God dwells.

Islam says, that nobody could ever know their final destiny till they stand in the judgment day. They believe that it depends on Allah to decide whether a person will enter in heaven or in hell. Hinduism speaks about good works. They say, (Karm kiye ja phal ki icha mat rakh) keep on doing good works don’t expect for reward, one day god will give you reward.

But contrary to it Bible says that through good works you cannot achieve heaven, because our works are like filthy rags in the sight of the most holy God.
Isa 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

Bible says that we can achieve heaven only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We can be saved only through the precious and holy blood of Jesus Christ. According to Bible, salvation is by grace not by our works, because nobody can ever do good works to please God. The works, which look good in our sight, God sees it as filthy and dirty rags. So how can you please God? Can you please God who made Sun, moon and stars by lighting a little candle? Can you please God who owns all the gold, silver and diamonds of this world, by giving Him some $$? No it is not possible. He owns the whole universe, then what can you give to Him so that He would be pleased with you? Nothing!!!

Now according to Quran, “you could never know whether you are going to heaven or not.” But according to Bible we could know if we have a place in heaven or not. Yes you can have this assurance whether you have a place in heaven or not. Jesus came to give us this assurance. He died on the Cross so that we can receive eternal life. He came to save which was lost. Mat 18:11,"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." Because of the precious blood of Jesus you can receive forgiveness of your sins. You can prepare for the eternal battle, which will decide each and every ones fate. If you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior you will have eternal life. If you accept Jesus into your heart you will be able to go with Jesus for the marriage supper. Rev 19:9, “Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'

Are you ready for it? Do you know for sure that you have a place in heaven? This life is just a preparation time. We are not going to live here forever. This place is not an eternal home for us. The time will come when we all have to leave, some for eternal life and eternal joy and some for eternal damnation and shame. To which group do you want to belong? With the blessed people who will live and reign with Jesus for eternity or to live with Satan who is deceiver and destroyer? You have to decide. And you have to decide this in this life itself.

Now what are the steps to reach heaven?
1.Salvation:
Heb 10:19, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,”
1 John 1:7 ….and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If you want to enter in the Holiest place, again it needs cleansing of sins. And this cleansing is only possible by the blood of Jesus. There is no other way. Let no one fool you. There is no other way to reach heaven. When we receive Jesus in our heart as Lord and Savior He comes inside of us to live with us. He cleanses our life from all unrighteousness and sin. Salvation brings holiness in our lives. The day you receive Salvation, the same day cleansing process begins in your life. This experience is called ‘Born Again’ or ‘New Birth’ (John 3:3).

New Birth not only cleanses your past sins, but it enables you to begin a new chapter in your life. Salvation brings holiness and a longing desire to lead a holy life. It is the first basic step to receive a place in heaven. If you are not saved till today you need this experience. Without it you cannot reach heaven.

2. Holiness:
Now the Second step is holiness. It does not come automatically, but needs effort and willingness. After salvation or born again experience, you do not become holy overnight. But holiness is a process. It should be applied in day today life. Again if you want to live with the most holy God in the holiest place you need to prepare yourself daily with holiness. As I said earlier, a soldier prepares himself/herself for the coming battle. This preparation does not complete in one or two days but it takes months and years. Without practice if you send a soldier in the battlefield you know what will happen. In the same way, we are in a spiritual battle. Our enemy is Satan himself. If you want to win this battle, imagine how much practice you’ll need. How much holiness you’ll need to win this battle? That’s why Jesus said:

Mat 26:41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
1 Pet 5:8-9,“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,….”

Holiness is very much necessary to reach heaven. Today it is a less spoken topic, and it does not appear to be of much importance. You rarely hear it from pulpit. But it is the key to reach heaven. Read Bible and you’ll find that the people, prophets; priests, these who lived a holy life could reach heaven. People who did great and mighty things, they were all holy. Prophets who did mighty miracles had close walk with God. Holiness and obedience in God’s command made them to rise up to higher levels. No one ever reached the higher levels in Bible by living filthy and sinful life. I find none.

Moses had a close walk with God. He talked to God as a friend speaks to another friend. He led 600,000 people to liberty from Egypt. Abraham was a friend of God. God spoke to him several times. Reason was that he had a close walk with God. He was called the father of nation. Israel came to existence because of Abraham’s righteousness. Moses, Abraham and many others reached the higher levels in spiritual field. Reason was that they all walked in holiness. Whatever God said they did it at any cost.

Yes my friend, we need holiness. To rise up in higher levels in ministry, to rise up in spiritual status, and finally to reach heaven we need holy and blameless life.
May God bless you.

Messiah – The King II

By Sherly Isaac

Psalms 24:7-10, “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.

Bible speaks about God as King of glory and in the New Testament the Messiah was called Lord of glory as we read in James 2:1, “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.” And also in 1 Cor 2:8, “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

All the glory, honor and majesty belong to God and no one can share His glory. Bible says in Isaiah 48:11, “My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.”

Psalms 45 says about God that He is King and that His kingdom is everlasting. We read in Psalms 45:6, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.” God came in this world as Messiah and died for us but the second time when He comes, He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords His kingdom will not end. He will rule forever and ever.

Some of the qualities of a King is to always want to deliver people from evil, from enemy and danger. Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah in Isaiah 61:1-7, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast. Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.”

That was the aim and mission of Jesus. He came in this world to preach the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, to bring deliverance to the captives and to those who are in bondage of sin and addictions. He came to comfort those who are mourning without any consolation. He came in this world to fill your heart with joy and to remove the heaviness of your heart.

Elizabeth Smart and her family had a very emotional reunion last week. She was kidnapped almost nine months back. A street man who had not even a home to live kidnapped the multimillionaire’s daughter. Her abductor made her to wear a veil so that her face could not be seen. Police caught her and her abductor. But she was so frightened that when police removed her veil and asked her if she was Elizabeth Smart. She said, “no”. Police again asked showing her own pictures but still she refused. Police officer said, it was clearly visible that she is the exact match of that photo but still she refused it. Meanwhile her father got a call from police saying, “come quickly without stopping anywhere”. He told, “When he walked inside a room, he saw his daughter and he could not believe that she was still alive.” He asked, “Is that you Elizabeth?” And she said, “Yes it is”. Further his father said, “I put my arms around her and we cried and cried.” Her mother was very much excited and told, “I am the luckiest mother in the whole world.” Elizabeth was in a position that she could not escape from her abductor as two people were always around her. But when her parents found her, how much joy it gave to them. They were overjoyed.

Today we human beings are bound by the chain of sin. We have been abducted by devil from our heavenly Father’s home. Every day the king is waiting for us that one day we will return to Him and recognize that He wants to make us His sons and daughters. He wants to put His arms around us and wants to deliver us from all evil. He wants to console and comfort our hearts and wants to wipe away all our tears. He wants to fill our hearts with everlasting joy. That is the reason why He came in this world to find the lost humanity. We are lost in our sins and we cannot come out of our sins without the help of God. If you look to Him, He will receive you in His home and make you King of kings sons and daughters. What a privilege to be called His sons and daughters.

Response to Rev. Dr. K.P. Kuruvilla

By Rev. Dr. Ninan Verghese

The letter “THE LAMENT OF A HUMBLE PRESBYTER IN THE CSI” from Rev. Dr. K.P. Kuruvilla, Professor, KUT SEMINARY, KANNAMMOOLA, TRIVANDRUM, dated February 17, 2003, alleged that the Moderator violated the CSI Constitution in consecrating Rev. K.P. Yohannan as bishop in the Believer’s Church.

In his first paragraph, he wrote, “This is meant to elicit some of the theological, ecclesiological, and ethical controversies created by the recent preposterous act of consecration, of K.P. Yohannan, a popular Evangelist and the head of a prosperous Gospel organization called “Believer’s Church,” by our beloved Moderator the Most Rev. K.J. Samuel. Quite surprisingly a former Moderator and two active Bishops were also present in the ceremony and laid their hands on him. It is very hard to justify their action on any grounds. They have willfully violated the constitution and guidelines of the tradition of the Church and eventually led the members of the whole CSI as well as the other members of the Communion of Churches to an utter confusion and anarchy.”

The Constitution of the Church of South India, however, expresses a much wider vision than what Dr. Kuruvilla is aware of or cares to realize.

“The Church of South India acknowledges that, in every effort to bring together divided members of Christ's Body into one organization, the final aim must be the union in the Universal Church of all who acknowledge the name of Christ, and that the test of all local schemes of union is that they should express locally the principle of the great catholic unity of the Body of Christ. ….The Church of South India desires to regulate all its actions by the principle that it should maintain fellowship with all those branches of the church of Christ with which the churches from which it has been formed have severally enjoyed such fellowship, and that it should continually seek to work towards the goal of the full union in one body of all parts of the Church of Christ. It prays that it may never so use the provisions of this Constitution under which it begins its life that they will become barriers against the fuller truth and richer life to be attained in a wider fellowship, but that it may always be ready to correct and amend them as God's will becomes more clearly known through the growing together of the several parts of the now divided church into a common mind and spirit under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.” (The Constitution of the Church of South India, CLS Press, 1993, Chapter II. Article 2).

The Church also recognizes that the ministry is a gift of God through Christ to His Church and the priesthood of all believers. The Constitution states,

“No individual and no one order in the church can claim exclusive possession of this heavenly priesthood. But in the church there has at all times been a special ministry, to which men have been called by God and set apart in the church. Those who are ordained to the ministry of the Word and Sacraments can exercise their offices only in and for the church, through the power of Christ the one High Priest (The Constitution of the CSI, Chapter II. Article 7).”

With reference to the historical episcopate, the CSI Constitution obviously claims,

“The Church of South India accepts and will maintain the historic episcopate in a constitutional form. But this acceptance does not commit it to any particular interpretation of episcopacy or to any particular view or belief concerning orders of the ministry, and it will not require the acceptance of any such particular interpretation or view as a necessary qualification for its ministry. Whatever differing interpretations there may be, however, the Church of South India agrees that, as Episcopacy has been accepted in the church from early times, it may in this sense fitly be called historic, and that it is needed for the shepherding and extension of the Church of south India. Any additional interpretations, though held by individuals, are not binding on the Church of south India. …. The Church of South India believes that in all ordinations and consecrations the true ordainer and consecrator is God, who in response to the prayers of His Church, and through the words and acts of its representatives, commissions and empowers for the office and work to which they are called the persons whom it has selected. …. In making provision for Episcopal ordination and consecration, the Church of South India declares that it is its intention and determination in this manner to secure the unification of this ministry, but that this does not involve any judgment upon the validity or regularity of any other form of ministry, and the fact that other Churches do not follow the rule of Episcopal ordination will not in itself preclude it from holding the relations of communion and fellowship with them. (The Constitution of the CSI, Chapter II. Article 11.)”

“The Ecumenical Vision of Episcopacy” (The Lambeth Conference 1998), made a commitment to full, visible unity.

Resolution IV.1
a. reaffirmes the Anglican commitment to the full, visible unity of the Church as the goal of the Ecumenical Movement;

b. encourages the further explication of the characteristics which belong to the full, visible unity of the Church (described variously as the goal, the marks, or the portrait of visible unity); and

c. recognizes that the process of moving towards full, visible unity may entail temporary anomalies, and believes that some anomalies may be bearable when there is an agreed goal of visible unity, but that there should always be an impetus towards their resolution and, thus, towards the removal of the principal anomaly of disunity.

Resolution IV.21 encourages relationship with Pentecostal Churches:

“In the light of Resolution 11 of Lambeth Conference 1988 and noting that the Roman Catholic Church, the Baptist World Alliance and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches respectively have been involved in bilateral conversations with some Pentecostal churches, invites the proposed Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations to explore the possibility of such conversations between the Anglican Communion and the Pentecostal churches, at an appropriate level.”

Resolution IV.25 - New Churches and Independent Church Groups

This Conference:
a. encourages the development of relationships between members of Anglican Churches and members of New Churches and Independent Christian Groups bilaterally, multilaterally, locally and informally, where this is appropriate and possible; and

b. asks the Primates to investigate ways and means of monitoring the development of New Churches and Independent Christian Groups, studying their characteristics, and offering advice to provinces and dioceses about initiating and developing relationships with them.

“The Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry” (BEM - Lima Text) which the CSI has accepted, says the following about SUCCESSION IN THE APOSTOLIC TRADITION.

“In the Creed, the Church confesses itself to be apostolic. The Church lives in continuity with the apostles and their proclamation. The same Lord who sent the apostles continues to be present in the Church. The Spirit keeps the Church in the apostolic tradition until the fulfillment of history in the Kingdom of God. Apostolic tradition in the Church means continuity in the permanent characteristics of the Church of the apostles: witness to the apostolic faith, proclamation and fresh interpretation of the Gospel, celebration of baptism and the eucharist, the transmission of ministerial responsibilities, communion in prayer, love, joy and suffering, service to the sick and the needy, unity among the local churches and sharing the gifts which the Lord has given to each. (Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry, Faith and Order Paper No. 111 IV A. “Apostolic Tradition in the Church” M34).

“In churches which practice the succession through the episcopate, it is increasingly recognized that a continuity in apostolic faith, worship and mission has been preserved in churches which have not retained the form of historic episcopate. This recognition finds additional support in the fact that the reality and function of the episcopal ministry have been preserved in many of these churches, with or without the title "bishop." Ordination, for example, is always done in them by persons in whom the Church recognizes the authority to transmit the ministerial commission.” (“Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry” - Faith and Order Paper No. 111 IV A. – “Apostolic Tradition in the Church” M37).

Rev. K.P. Kuruvilla can hold his own view on historic episcopate, which may be consistent with the Mar Thoma Church’s view, but it is incongruent with the Church of South India or the New Testament. The Metropolitan’s position on the issue of consecrating Rev. Yohannan is comprehensible. The Mar Thoma Church is like the ‘cake not turned,’ not fully reformed. The Mar Thoma Church and the Church of South India share a joint communion, however, they are far apart on many issues, particularly with regard to historic episcopate and the kind of churches with whom we can have union.

The Church of South India has a completely different standard than the Mar Thoma Church. According to our constitution, the Ecumenical vision for Episcopacy of the Lambeth Conference 1998 and the Lima Text (Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry) our relationship (communion) can extend to any church that acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and savior, regardless of whether they accept our definition of episcopacy or not. However, the Believer’s Church even went to the extent of accepting episcopacy to satisfy us. Scripturally and constitutionally, what has taken place is a beautiful expression of spiritual and organic unity.

It is absolutely wrong to suggest that Rev. K.P. Yohannan is Pentecostal. He is an ordained minister in the Baptist Church in the U.S.A. Historically, both the Church of South India and the Church of North India have accepted Baptist ordination as valid.

In 1947, when ministers and bishops from non-episcopal backgrounds came into the union we did not demand that they should have proper Episcopal ordinations. Instead, we recognized their ministry and non-episcopal ordinations as valid. As mentioned previously in this letter, “The Church of South India acknowledges that, in every effort to bring together divided members of Christ's Body into one organization, the final aim must be the union in the Universal Church of all who acknowledge the name of Christ, and that the test of all local schemes of union is that they should express locally the principle of the great catholic unity of the Body of Christ (Chapter II. Article 2).”

In addition, Rev. K. P. Yohannan and the Believers Church accepted the requirements set forth by the Church of South India Synod, including the acceptance of the Constitution of the Church of South India, the episcopacy, and the church government, to make them acceptable to the Church of South India.

Further, K.P. Yohannan’s Seminary in Thiruvalla (Asian Biblical Seminary), accredited by Serampore, is staffed by prominent administrators and professors belonging to the CSI and Mar Thoma Churches, including the former Moderator, Victor Premsagar, and the wife of a Madhya Kerala CSI pastor. Would they teach or work there knowing this is a Pentecostal Seminary?

It is evident from Rev. K. P. Kuruvilla’s letter that he lacks the understanding of what CSI stands for and the facts regarding the present situation. If a person with such theological background and leadership lacks the vision of the CSI and its founding fathers, one cannot blame the ordinary people.

Further, it is immensely sad when a bishop acts the way Bishop George Isaac did. He may have reasons to protest, but there are mature and appropriate ways to do it. For believers to go to a secular court or to use the secular media to settle problems is improper. Moreover, it is against the Scripture and degrading to the church.

A personal (official) letter written by Bishop George Isaac and sent to the General Secretary of the Church of South India Synod was publicly distributed at the Maramon Convention. How many people raised their voices to protest the way Bishop George Isaac handled this situation? Isn’t this beneath the dignity of a bishop? This is a sad commentary on our church. This is typical of the way problems are handled in many dioceses in the Church of South India.

On the contrary, if the moderator did anything wrong, then the Synod and the Council of Bishops should investigate the matter and take necessary action. Jumping to hasty conclusion without entirely considering the facts is dangerous to the Church.

I hope our lay members, pastors and bishops will read our constitution very carefully and grasp the vision of our founding fathers. They were not narrow-minded or racists. Today, racism and casteism are literally crippling our church. Instead of celebrating the diversity we are seeking to mold the church into our narrow perspective. Can we really claim to belong to Jesus Christ and His Church redeemed by His blood? The baptismal confession in Galatians 3:28 “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus,” is yet to be realized in the Church of South India.

Today, people from the Anglican background try to read into the constitution of the Church of South India their understanding of episcopacy and ministry. This will not enhance the ecclesial reality that the Church of South India maintains through its historic episcopate as maintained in the Constitution. It is a wake up call to envision the broader reality that the Church of South India proclaims and fosters. It is time to change ones perspective. Church of South India may not be what one thinks it is.
